About me

Hello everyone, I am Reid Petro. I know if you came to this site it isn’t to find out info about me, you're here to read on any of my articles soon to come, so I will keep this short and sweet. I grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and dual enrolled in Kalamazoo’s Education for the Arts program while in high school. I attended Calvin College for film and media production during the first 3 years of my college career, then transferred and started attending Compass College of Cinematic arts in the fall of 2014. I have loved movies for as long as I can remember and some of my fondest moments as a kid were making short films with my friends on multiple Sunday afternoons. I started exploring and experimenting with a camcorder when I was only 5. My very first projects were creating stop action animation films and “spaghetti shoot ‘em ups”. I have been working in the professional field for a little over a year now. I know that’s not long, but I continue to learn new things everyday.

I am hard working, passionate about the art and craft of filmmaking, and never back out of a challenge. I will always give 110% into every project I work on and always strive for the very best. The cinema, to me, is more than just images flashing on front of our eyes, it is one of the most powerful pieces of our communication tools.

Mission

First of all, I don’t consider myself a writer AT ALL. This is something I wouldn’t have ever thought I’d actually be doing. Sounds assuring, right? Well, I wanted to start this blog to help create a resource in the film production world, but really create a place where I can share my own personal experiences and keep them in one location. Kind of like a public, electronic diary. I want to have a place to share my personal experiences and knowledge as I go through this crazy world they call filmmaking. Shortly, I hope to be filling this site with behind the scene articles and photos including light plots, camera rigs, and interviews. I hope to have some reviews on cameras, rigs, and lenses up as well, in the future. However, this is my first time doing anything of this caliber so it’s going to be a slow start I presume; but by doing something like this I hope I can be of any assistance to my fellow friends and colleagues in this wild industry. I am hoping this blog helps me to start collecting my thoughts into something that is coherent and makes sense to not only me but everyone who stumbles across this blog. I just hope that as I continue to create posts, I can be of some help to anyone that crosses my path. I know it’s not much, but we all gotta start somewhere, right! I hope to bring on guest writers and additional content from professionals beyond myself.

Of course, my reviews are going to be a little biased, but who isn’t. I do promise to always create reviews that share 100% of my personal experience regarding the product, and only that. I will be as transparent as I possibly can. Otherwise, what’s the point of even doing  a review then?
